New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) Scorching summer heat left Delhiites sweltering for the second consecutive day today, resulting in a further rise in mercury in the capital.

The maximum temperature rose to 35.5 Degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, while the minimum rose to 18.4 Degrees C, from 17.1 Degrees C.

Weathermen attribute the scorching heat in Delhi since yesterday to the abatement of the intensity of the Northwesterly winds which have, over the last week, brought coolness to the weather.

Yesterday also, the maximum rose to 34 Degrees C, from 33.3 Degrees C on Tuesday while the minimum rose to 17.1 Degrees C, from 16.8 Degrees C on Tuesday.

The coming days are unlikely to bring any relief to Delhi ites from scorching heat with the weathermen forecasting a rise in day emperatures in the next 24 hours.

''The day temperatures are likely to increase further by two to three Degrees C over many parts of North India during the next 48 hours,''the weather office said.

Some relief could, however, be in the offing by the weekend with the weather office forecasting rain and thundershowers in several parts of Northwest India on March 31 and April 1.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a rise in the minimum temperature tomorrow to 19 Degrees C and maximum to 38 Degrees C respectively.
