Oppn forces AP House adjournment

Hyderabad, Mar 29 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned twice today as the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Left and the BJP stalled proceedings.

Trouble started when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motion given notice of by the TDP on 'illegal' projects being undertaken across River Godavari and River Krishna by Maharashtra and Karnataka. The CPI and CPI(M) had given notices on on World Bank conditionalities.

As soon as the House met for the day, the TDP members were up on their feet demanding setting aside of the listed business and immediate taking up of the burning riparian issues.

Members of the two Left parties rushed to the podium shouting slogans accusing the Congress Government of allegedly pledging the state to the World Bank and succumbing to its conditionalities, hitting hard the poor people.

The Speaker appealed to the members to resume their seats and discuss the issue during the debate on the appropriation bill.

With the Opposition unrelenting, the Speaker initially adjourned the House for 20 minutes.
