No new SGRY work in newly added NREGA districts

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The Centre has instructed states that no new SGRY works should be taken up in the districts to be added under NREGA in the year 2007-08 and informed that these districts will not be getting any allocation under SGRY from the next financial year.

The Ministry of Rural Development in a communication to the State Rural Development Secretaries has instructed that all out efforts should be made to complete works undertaken under SGRY schemes.

Works, which cannot be completed due to unavoidable circumstances by the end of the current financial year, should be completed at the earliest with the balance funds available under the scheme in each district as on April 1, 2007.

The SGRY programme stands discontinued and gets merged in NREGA on the start of the programme in these districts. The coverage under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) has further been extended to 130 additional districts in 27 States of the country.
