Andaman: ITBP plans to nearly double its strength

Port Blair, Mar 29: The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force will soon launch a massive recruitment drive across India to nearly double its strength, ITBP sources said.

The ITBP, a paramilitary force, is at present having 30 battalions in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Sikkim, Arunchal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and works with the primary aim to protect Indo-China border.

The move is made to provide relief to about 35,000 jawans of ITBP who continualy serve in high altitude.

''After the new recruitments, some jawans will be posted in high altitude, while those serving there for years will get a low altitude posting in places like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh,'' said Deputy Inspector General of ITBP Ranbir S Sharma yesterday.

Mr Sharma, who is presently in Port Blair regarding publicity of ITBP's recruitment rally, said that the paramilitary force would soon open new bases in states like Bihar and West Bengal.

''We are now intending to recruit the young and dynamic youth of South Indian Region with minimum educational qualifications into the ITBP force, which is the pioneer force providing Commando Protection in various national and international events as well as VIPs and VVIPs,'' he said while addressing a press conference at Port Blair yesterday.

The recruitment rally of ITBP will soon be launched across India in phases, with about 20,000 vacancies in various posts.

''Our Jawans have earned good recognition in India. Many dignitaries demand only ITBP Commando Protection,'' Mr Sharma added.
