Cong tried to break Jan Morcha alliance: VP
Lucknow, Mar 29 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh today alleged that the Congress tried to ''disintegrate'' the Jan Morcha alliance ahead of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Talking to reporters here, he claimed that several Congress leaders were in touch with him to form an alliance. ''But the seats they were ready to part with were so less that the alliance I had formed could have disintegrated,'' he said.
To a poser, he claimed that he could not part ways with ''old friends to make new ones.'' The former Prime Minister claimed his views on special ecomomic zones (SEZs) would have remained unchanged had the alliance with the Congress materialised. ''The US and the former Soviet Union had joined hands to defeat Hitler in World War II...at times such an alliance is required.'' In reply to a question, he admitted that some of the alliance partners of Jan Morcha have parted ways. ''Let them leave if they want to.'' UNI
