Cauvery agitation enters 53rd day

Mysore, Mar 29 (UNI) Dharnas, hunger strikes and public rallies marked the agitation against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin region on the 53rd day today.

In Mandya district, the relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi members continued in the Silver Jubilee park. It was also held in Maddur, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna.

Addressing a public rally, organised by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, senior journalist and freedom fighter Patil Puttappa called upon the Legislators and Parliamentarians from the State to resign immediately and join the fight against the verdict.

The public meeting was in connection with the Bangalore-bound Rath Yatra, which commenced from Bhagamandala near the originating place of river Cauvery.

In Mysore, members of the Naika community staged a protest under the banner of Cauvery Horatta Kriya Samithi at K R Circle.
