Car fest: Prohibitory orders clamped
Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 29 (UNI) The district administration has clamped prohibitory orders under Sec 144 in view of the BJP's plans to hold 'Azhitherottam' (temple car festival) of Sri Thiyagarajaswami Temple today.
Police sources here yesterday said public meetings, rallies and religious processions have been banned.
The BJP and some other Hindu outfits planned to hold 'therottam' today being Ayilam Star Day with a replica of the temple car even as the authorities decided to hold the festival on April 23 as per convention.
Anticipating trouble, the authorities seized the replica and clamped Sec 144 to maitain peace and law and order.
