BJP wins Bajpur Assembly seat

Dehradun, Mar 29 (UNI) The BJP's strenght rose to 35 in the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly today with the victory of its candidate Arvind Pandey from Bajpur constituency in the Maech 25 byelections.

Mr Pandey defeated his nearest rival, Kailash Rani of Congress by a margin of 3845 votes. He secured 34,532 votes and Ms Rani 30,687 votes.

Poll for this seat was countermanded following the death of Congress candidate Janakraj Sharma in an accident during the election campaign.
