AP Govt to conserve heritage sites: Minister

Hyderabad, Mar 29 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government plans to set up a museum to conserve Buddhist and Hindu heritage sites being excavated in Nalgonda District, Tourism and Culture Minister J Geetha Reddy told the State Assembly today.

In a written reply to TRS members T Harish Rao and K Nagesh, she said excavations were on at Phanigiri. Conservation work would be taken up during this fiscal with grants from the 12th Finance Commission.

Restoration work had been taken up at Bhuvanagiri at a cost of Rs 12 crore, she said, adding the government proposed to conserve and restore a group of temples dedicated to Lord Someswara and his consort Chaya near Nalgonda.

The Shiva temple, constructed by the Kakatiya rulers at Pillalmarri would be renovated with grants from the 12th Finance Commission, she said.

The government had acquired land between the Kolanpak group of temples and Jain temple as part of renovation plan, she added.
