ABVP men arrested during bandh

Tirupati, Mar 29 (UNI) Police today arrested 23 Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) volunteers while they barged into the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) administrative building and Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidayalayam (SPMVV), during their state-wide bandh at all the Universities here today.

About 50 ABVP activists gathered at SVU resorted to dharna and shouted slogans against the government demanding recall of SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Veena Nobel Dass and immediate cancellation of Governor nominated LC seat to her.

Later, 14 of them were arrested while trying to enter the building.

The ABVP had called for a bandh at all universities in the state today for demanding removal of SPMVV Vice-Chancellor from the post in connection with alleged "forced religious conversion" in the campus.
