WR offical fined Rs 46,750 under RTI Act in Guj

Vadodara, Mar 28: The Central Information Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 46,750 on Rita Rajan, senior Public Information Officer, Western Railway, on a complaint filed by a contractor J N Barot.

Mr Barot had submitted three applications calling for information under the RTI Act. A fine of Rs 5,250 was imposed for delaying reply by 21 days beyond the stipulated 30 days for the first application.

For the second application, the reply was delayed by 80 days beyond the 30 days and a fine of Rs 20,000 was levied and Rs 21,500 was levied for delaying information for the third application which came 86 days after the stipulated time of 30 days. In all a fine totalling to Rs 46,750 has been imposed on Ms Rajan.

The commission has given time till April 7 for the fine to be paid and said it can be paid in five installments, if required.
