Three women hacked to death in TN
Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, Mar 28 (UNI) In a horrible incident, a 35-year-old man hacked to death three women, including his wife, engaged in farm work, with a crude sickle and unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide at Kulakattan Kurichi village under Pudur police limits in this district today.
According to police, M Pandi, enraged over his wife, Mariammal (26), not heeding his words and ignoring a temple ritual, proceeded this afternoon to the farm land, where she was working as a coolie, and engaged in a verbal duel. Suddenly, he started stabbing her indiscriminately.
He also brutally stabbed to death two other women, R Pechiyammal (55), the landlady, and S Devi (30), another farmhand, who came to the rescue of Mariammal. Later, in an attempt to commit suicide, he stabbed himself many a time.
Pandi and his wife, hailing from a village near Aruppukottai in neighbouring Virudhunagar district, have settled down at Kulakattan Kurichi to make a living.
Pandi was being treated at the Government Hospital here and his condition was stated to be serious.
The Pudur police had registered a case.
