New Delhi, Mar 28: Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd today said it has bagged a Rs 1800 crore work order from Power Grid Corporation (PGCIL) for manufacture and supply of ACSR lapwing power transmission conductors for the country's first 500kV HVDC lines suited for transmission of over 2500 MW power.
These conductors would be installed at the 500 kV HVDC Ballia-Bhiwadi transmission line. The contracts were received during the third quarter of the year 2006-07. Deliveries are scheduled over the next 21 months.
''We are honoured to partner with PGCIL for its landmark project in India. With over a decade of experience with the varying requirements of customers in global markets in the Power Sector, Sterlite is uniquely positioned to be a significant contributor to India's vision of Power for All by Year 2012,'' company Director Pravin Agarwal said.
The government's transmission perspective plan focuses on the creation of a 'National Grid' in a phased manner by adding over 60,000 km of transmission network by 2012.
The integrated grid is projected to evacuate additional 1,00,000 MW by the year 2012 and carry 60 per cent of the power generated in the country. The existing inter-regional power transfer capacity is 9,000 MW, which is to be further enhanced to 30,000 MW by 2012 through creation of 'Transmission Super Highways'.
The company is engaged in manufacture of power transmission conductors of extra high voltages, high voltages and power distribution conductors.
