Slums after 2000 would have to be demolished-Deshmukh

Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the state government has approached the Supreme Court seeking protection for the shanties that have come up till 2000. He said the hutments that had come up after 2000 would be demolished.

Replying to a question by Madhukar Chavan, Nitin Gadkari and others of the BJP in the council, Mr Deshmukh said the task of removal of encroachments will be mainly with Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation.

He also said the government is coming out with the plans of affordable housing for the people so that they would not have to look for a new slum.

The Maharashtra government has approached the Supreme Court asking for the review of the Bombay high court decision disallowing regularisation of slums built till 2000.
