Saw mill reduced to ashes

Itanagar, Mar 28: A devastating fire gutted Itakakir Saw Mill at Yupia, 25 km from here last night, causing an estimated loss of around Rs two crore.

Two persons, initialy asleep nearby, came to know about it only after the inferno had engulfed the entire compound, police sources said.

Three fire tenders fought for four hours last night to extinguish the fire.

However, the fire revived this morning, forcing fire tenders to rush to the spot once again.

The fire was doused after a three-hour operation, sources here informed.

Remnants of coiled iron wires from burnt tyres were found in the debris at three places within the compound, hinting at a possible sabotage, the sources said.

Investigation has been launched.

The building, a DG set with alternator, complete machineries, including two 30 HP Crompton motors, a horizontal band saw machine with trolley, a vertical band saw, electrical fittings and sawn timbers were completely destroyed, sources added.
