Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) A farmer's association today urged the Tamil Nadu government to cancel the Government Order aimed at acquiring farm land for setting up a Satellite Township.

In a petition to the government, the Thirumazhisai Vivasayigal Padhukappu Nalasangam said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced that the proposal to set up satellite townships had been shelved and farm lands would not be acquired.

However, the G.O issued in this regard on January three this year was not withdrawn.

The association urged the government to come out with an announcement that it had totally dropped the proposal and that the GO issued had also been withdrawn in the interests of farmers.

The association planned to stage a peaceful demonstration on April 6 to press for their demand and wanted the government to make the announcement soon so that they need not stage the demonstration.
