Kochi, Mar 28 (UNI) Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today said the immigration laws would be comprehensively amended to regulate and encourage the migration of labour to other countries, especialy to the Gulf.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the amendment in the Indian Immigration Laws, 1983 would incorporate accountability for the recruiting agencies and stringent punishment for any violations, among others.

He said as per the amendment, the recruiting agencies should file reports with the officials concerned on the recruitment of employees for other countries.

Mr Ravi said stringent punishment would also be put in place to discourage any immigration violation.

The amendment, which was being vetted by the Ministry of Law, would not only regulate the migration of labour but also would help in channelising the human resources in the right track, he added.
