HC directs DGP to make investigation machinery more efficient

Allahabad, Mar 28 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh DGP to appoint an officer of state level jurisdiction such as an ADG to make the investigation system more efficient and revive cases, which have been forgotten or put on the back burner by the investigating officers.

Passing this order on a writ petition, the bench comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Amar Saran directed the newly appointed officer shall appear in this court after three weeks.

This officer shall be responsible for monitoring and implementing the directions contained in the HC's earlier order passed on October 5, 2006 and DGP's circular dated October 21, 2006.

The judges have directed that on the next date of listing of the case, detailed information relating to different scams shall be given in the prescribed pro forma in the court.

The HC registry has furnished list of 116 writ petitions relating to different scams in UP.

The court will hear the case on April 23, 2007.

On October 5, 2006, the court had directed the state DGP to submit a status report on the progress of investigation in all cases in different police stations in the state.

The DGP was also directed to obtain information from the police stations and the office of government advocate, relating to different kinds of scams relating to land deals, arms licenses etc and to get scam cases clubbed and its investigation concluded expeditiously within a fixed time frame.

The court had further directed the DGP to issue direction to SSPs/SPs of all districts to get investigtions concluded.

The DGP in compliance of the HC order dated Octoer 21, 2006 directed all SSPs/SPs of all the districts to give highest priority to investigations concerning various scams and the same was required to be completed by November 30, 2006.
