Cotton farmers to get compensation for crop failure: Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, Mar 28 (UNI) Karnataka government will distribute Rs 2.6 crore as compensation to farmers of Haveri district who had lost their Cotton crop in 2004, due to supply of poor quality seeds by a company, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.
Speaking to newspersons at his chamber in Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat here, he said the farmers of Haveri had lost hopes of getting the relief. However, Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashampur had put in efforts by consulting the officials of the company which had supplied 'Chamatkar' seeds and succeeded in getting the relief amount.
Haveri District Deputy Commissioner had been instructed to ensure that the affected farmers got the relief amount, he added.
Mr Kashampur was also present when the Chief Minister made the announcement.
