Cop dies after consuming 'bhang'

Bangalore, Mar 28 (UNI) A police constable died and two of his colleague Constables took ill after they consumed 'bhang' on the occasion of Ram Navmi festival here last night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M C Chabbi told UNI that the trio, who were on the night beat in the Sampangiramnagar police station limits, were offered the 'bhang' by the organisers at a temple in the area. Soon after consuming it, they fell ill.

They were rushed to a nearby hi-tech hospital where Venkatesh (29) was declared brought dead. Mr Srinivas Murthy and Mr Shivaraj were recovering, he added.

The intoxicating drink, known as 'Rama Rasa' in the state was widely prepared during the festival.

All the three cops had joined the police force from the same batch in 2003, police added.
