Central reply after 18 years!
Jaipur, Mar 28 (UNI) It took 18 years for the Union government to clarify a state government query that whether the Banjara community is eligible for inclusion in the Shyedule Tribelist.
Social Welfare Minister Madan Dilawar in the Assembly today informed that the state government got the reply on October 27, 1999, for its letter dated October 17,1981, regarding the issue of inclusion of the Banjara community in the ST list.
According to the Census Commissioner, the Banjara community on comparative basis comes under the forward caste. They have no permanent features comparable to the syheduled Tribes.
They live in the valleys.
According to the letter, the Central government is compiling information from the distrcit collectors regarding the fulfilment of the criteria by the community for their inclusion in the list.
