Blast kills CRPF constable in Chhattisgarh

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), Mar 28 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable has been killed in a naxal blast near Manpur, about 115 km from here.

''A paramilitary team, stationed at Manpur Police Station, was returning after a search in the forests when the rebels triggered the explosion late last night, killing Constable Alok Kumar Pal,'' CRPF Commandant Vinay Kumar Rai said.

The blast was followed by an encounter between the personnel and the Maoists, who later fled to nearby jungles. The personnel seized a sizeable amount of material, including haversacks, from the spot.

Constable Pal, of the 41st battalion, hailed from West Bengal.
