Badal promises to overhaul police administration

Chandigarh, Mar 28 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced that the police administration in the state would be completely overhauled to make it more responsive towards the public.

''We will overhaul the police system and get rid of the terror attitude of the police and make it more friendly'', he said while replying to the debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor Address in the state Assembly.

The police would be made accountable and action would be taken against errant officials, he said while assuring the House that the innocent would not be harassed. He made it clear that the district police chiefs would be held responsible for any action of their subordinate staff.

The Chief Minister pointed out that he had already issued instructions that no woman wanted by the police would be summoned to the police station. A lady police personnel would go to the house of the woman for questioning, he added.

He made it clear that there would be no politicalisation of the police force by his government.
