Assembly passing resolution in Assembly "unfortunate": Ravi
Kochi, Mar 28 (UNI) Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and senior Congress leader Vayalar Ravi today termed 'unfortunate' the Kerala Assembly passing a resolution, stating that the issue of an arrest warrant by a court in Ottapalam against a Minister when the Assembly was in session, was 'disrespect' to the House.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, Mr Ravi said though the Assembly had the right to pass a resolution, the process should be within the letter and spirit of the Constitution.
The resolution came in the wake of Ottapalam First Class Magistrate Sibi Kuruvila on Moday issuing the arrest warrant against Electricity Minister A K Balan in a case relating to blocking rail traffic.
Mr Ravi said everyone was equal before the Constitution and the law did not limit the courts in pronouncing judgements on a Member of Parliament or Assemly when the Parliament or Assembly was in session.
He said such developmemts would weaken the relationship between the Constitutional institutions and would result in people losing faith in the judiciary.
