Agreement with UAE model for other gulf countries: Minister

Kochi, Mar 28 (UNI) The recent agreement between India and the UAE on labour conditions in the Emirates would be a model for similar accords with other Gulf countries, said Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Ravi said an agreement on improving conditions for Indian laboures was reached after his talks with the UAE Minister of Labour Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi in his recent visit to India.

He said a Joint Review Committee would be formed, with three members from the Centre and three from the UAE government to overview the implementaion of the clauses in the agreement.

He said the agreement would help in protecting the basic rights of labourers in terms of salary, working and living conditions.

Mr Ravi said the UAE delegation informed that Indians coming with visit visa for employment would find it difficult to find job in the Emirates.

The Minister said talks were on to provide more benefits like medical insurance to all labourers in the UAE.

''The Centre will sign a similar agreement with the new Kuwait government'', Mr Ravi informed.
