9 kg heroin recovered from Jammu-based smugglers

Phagwara, Mar 28 (UNI) Police today recovered five kg heroin worth Rs five crore in the international market after interrrogation of two Jammu-based members of an inter-state gang of smugglers in police remand since last week.

So far, the police had recovered nine kg of heroin from Wariam Singh and Gurbax Singh of Jammu, who were nabbed on March 22 on national highway near village Mauli.

Police had recovered a bag containing four kg of heroin worth Rs 4 crore from their truck then, CIA Staff Phagwara Incharge Inderjit Singh said.

He said during police interrogation, the accused disclosed that another five kg of heroin purchased from Jammu and meant for sale in Delhi was hidden in the bushes near village Mauli.

The CIA Inspector said, both the accused were produced before Phagwara Judicial magistrate, who again sent them in police remand for further interrogation till April 1.

Their interrogation had revealed that Gurbax Singh had spent five years in Tihar jail from 1998 to 2003 and was active in drug smuggling for the past six months.
