Works for Palatana gas-based project starts

Agartala, Mar 27: The construction works for the proposed 740 mw gas based power project at Palatan in Tripura's South district would start by December this year, state Power Minister Manik Dey informed in the state assembly today.

In reply to questions by Congress MLA Gopal Roy and CPI(M) MLA Joygobinda Debro, the minister, quoting ONGC Tripura Power Company Private Limited, said the project is expected to be complete by 2009. All necessay preparations in regard to setting up of this project was progressing and land acquisition had been completed.

Power Purchase Agreement in regard to the 740 mw proposed project would be held and primarily the state would get 100 mw power from this project. The remaining power would be exported outside the state through 400 kv line.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone of the project in November 30, 2005 and for this purpose the state government had handed over about 80 hectare of land to the ONGC.
