Torvi Hakkal area peaceful
Hubli, Mar 27 (UNI) The Torvi Hakkal area under Kamaripet police station limits here, which witnessed a communal clash last Sunday, continued to remain peaceful with no fresh incidents reported from any part of the area.
According to police, trouble had broken out in the area when a musical programme was going on as part of Banni Mahakali temple pratishthapana mahotsav. Some people objected to the presence of a person, belonging to a particular community, in the programme. After some time, miscreants pelted stones from behind the stage and in retaliation, programme organisers and supporters threw stones from the front.
Eight people were injured and as many vehicles were damaged in the violence. Police tried to restore peace in the area by resorting to lathicharge. Leaders of various communities assembled immediately and brought the situation under control.
The injured, including two women, have been admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences here.
