Orissa Assembly Speaker still stands as an accused-OGP

Bhubaneswar, Mar 27 (UNI) Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP) President Bijaya Mohapatra today alleged that Speaker Maheswar Mohanty still stands as an accused in view of the criminal case pending against him for violating the of model code of conduct.

Reacting to the withdrawal of the Opposition notice on the removal of the Speaker, Mr Mohapatra said the people of Orissa should know the fate of the allegations levelled against the Speaker by the Opposition in the motion.

He said never in the history of Assembly a Speaker had faced such a case against him by no other than another constitutional body for violating the model code of conduct.

The Opposition and the Treasury bench, Mr.Mohapatra said could not decide the fate of the case which would be ultimately decided by the court.

He came down heavily on Chief Minister Maven Patnaik stating that being the leader of the house, he also owes a responsibility in the case and could not sit silently over the matter.

Stating that the case against the Speaker was serious,no political and other consideration should stand on the way torestore the dignity of the chair or the house.
