Lakme fashion Week kick starts in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 27: The prestigious Lakme Fashion Week started here at the National Centre For Performing arts, (NCPA) and will be held till March 31.

Designer Nikasha Tawadey showcased her collection 'The Urban Myth' Fall/Winter 2007 which draws inspiration from the ethnic tribal prints of Orissa (Saura, godaba and the Bonda tribes).

The collection symbolizes a synergy of modern bohemia. Strong cuts controlled volume fine pleats pin tuck details combined with a body armour, embroidery feel in multi stranded beads, spikes, chains, coin work shells are used to create a chic ensemble.

The colours include jewel colours in plum, sapphire, ruby reds and emerald greens in contrast with colours like gold silver, pewter and bronze. The collection boasts of easy drapes, smock tops, smock layers dresses fitted jackets and off shoulder tunics among others.

Nikasha who set out to be a psychoanalyst settled to using her creative urges by designing clothes for the famous. Noted designers Sandeep and Abu Jani approached her to retail her line at Selfridges in London. In 2004 she set up her label 'Nikasha'. Today she is the only Indian designer to retail her exclusive spring summer collection at Macy's in San Francisco under her brand name 'Nikasha'.

She has also dressed up the former tennis queen Anna Kournikova and Bollywood actress Priety Zinta for the film 'Lakshya'.

Designing for Anup Jalota's music video, Coke commercial shoot with top Pakistani stars and her participation at the Singapore Fashion Week are a few of her achievements.

Her collection makes its presence felt at leading fashion boutiques such as Ogaan (Mumbai), Ensemble (Delhi, Mumbai), Zoya (Mumbai), Aza (Mumbai), Macy's (San Francisco) and Kalika (Bangalore).
