Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 27 (UNI) In the absence of the Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front(UDF) members, the Kerala Assembly today passed a resolution stating that the issuance of arrest warrant by a court in Ottapalam against a minister when the Assembly was in session was a 'disrespect' to the House.

The resolution came in the wake of Ottapalam First Class Magistrate Sibi Kuruvila yesterday issuing the arrest warrant against Electricity Minister A K Balan in a case relating to blocking rail traffic.

Law Minister M Vijayakumar introduced the resolution towards the fag end of the day's proceedings, after the House witnessed noisy scenes in the morning when the Opposition demanded the Minister's resignation over the issue.

The resolution was passed with the strength of votes from Treasury benches.

Later, the Opposition staged a sit-in in front of the Assembly complex in protest against the manner in which the Government passed a resolution against the court.
