Shimla, Mar 27 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said credibility and objective reporting were the greatest assets of any newspaper, news agency and electronic channel.

Announcing the launch of the state's first Hindi fortnightly ''Janpaksh Mail'' here last evening, he said the media should follow the basic principles of neutrality and objectivity while reporting.

Mr Singh said newspapers and magazines, besides providing knowledge and information to the public, also take the government's policies and programmes to them.

In this age of competition, unless the news magazines and newspapers cater to the needs of all sections of the society, they would not gain the confidence of the public, he said.

Lauding the publishers for launching the state's first Hindi magazine, he said quality and continuity should be maintained at all costs to make it successful.

The Chief Minister hoped that it would also play its role in preserving the rich cultural heritage, customs and traditions of the state.

He also honoured renowned Himachali cardiologist T C Mahunt, cricketer Madan Lal, Zee TV reporter Neeraj Thakur, journalist Purnima Joshi, radio anchors Anju Chanchal and Pankaj for bringing laurels to the state.

Speaking on the occasion, magazine's editor-in-chief Anil Khimta hoped that the Hindi fortnightly would stand up to the expectations of the people of the state.

State Excise and Taxation Minister Rangila Ram Rao, Agriculture Minister Raj Kishan Gaur besides several other people were also present on the occasion.
