Housing problem of security force personnel being addressed: Patil
New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) The government has set up a committee to look into the housing problem of security force personnel which would carve out long term strategies to overcome the shortage.
Announcing this at the 44th Raising Day celebrations of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) today, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the government was concerned over the problems being faced by security forces like housing and was seriously looking into them.
Lauding the SSB's role in checking cross-border crime on Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Nepal borders, the Home Minister said the force was more wellknown for its community welfare and civic actions with the involvement of the local populace.
''The SSB's exemplary human rights record while handling both the friendly, but open and porous, borders with Nepal and Bhutan has set a standard for others to follow on Comprehensive Border Management,'' he said.
Its adoption of technology to augment its capability was another feather in its cap, which has given it a progressive and proactive image in bringing people in border areas into the national mainstream, he added.
