EC pulls up UP Minister for violation of model code of conduct

New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) The Election Commission today censured Uttar Pradesh Minister for Protocol, Estates Department and Civil Aviation Banwari Singh Yadav for violating the model code of conduct.

The EC said the minister abused his official position and violated the model code of conduct by using official vehicles for the purpose of going to his party office in Lucknow and using his escort vehicle for carrying election campaign material.

The EC on Saturday had issued a notice to the Minister, asking him to explain his position as to why action should not be initiated against him for the violation of the model code of conduct.

Mr Yadav was asked to furnish his reply to the commission by yesterday.

The Minister was asked to deposit in the government treasury the charges appplicable for hiring the vehicle.

The copy of ''challan' receipt was to be submitted to the state Election Commisssion.
