Srinagar, Mar 27: A West Bengal resident was arrested by the Army after he was found moving in a suspicious manner near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.

They said Losang Dechan, a resident of Kurseong in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, was arrested after the soldiers noticed his suspicious movement at the 'Asha Post' near the LoC in Gulmarg sector of Baramulla district in north Kashmir last evening.

The sources said Dechan had taken a ride on the Gondola Cable Car from Gulmarg to Apharwat, which lies very close to the LoC.

He had arrived at the world famous tourist resort of Gulmarg from Srinagar yesterday only.

After sustained interrogation by the Army, the sources said Dechan was handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir police for further questioning.

This was for the first time since the outbreak of militancy in Kashmir about 17 years ago that a person from outside the state was apprehended by the security forces near the LoC.
