Washington, Mar 27 (UNI) US President George W Bush has asked White House spokesman Tony Snow to stay strong as he undergoes treatment for cancer in a hospital here.

In a statement issued today from the White House, President Bush said Mr Snow had called him this morning to say that his cancer, which he thought he had successfully dealt with, had returned.

''His attitude is, one, that he is not going to let this whip him, and he's upbeat. My attitude is that we need to pray for him, and for his family.'' In his message, President Bush said, ''Tony stay strong, a lot of people love you and care for you and will pray for you. And we're hoping for all the best.'' He also said he is looking forward to the day when ''Snow comes back to the White House and briefs the press corps on the decisions that I'm making and why I'm making them. In the meantime, I hope our fellow citizens offer a prayer for him and his family.'' Mr Snow, 51, had undergone surgery to treat his colon cancer and it was removed entirely in 2005. He had also undergone six months of chemotherapy. However, a small growth was discovered last year in his lower right pelvic area and tests proved that he had cancer again.

According to White House sources, the growth was removed yesterday, but doctors feel it has spread to his liver.

Mr Snow and his wife, Jill, have three children, aged 10, 11 and 14.
