BJP government to inquire into functioning of SCVTs

Una, Mar 27 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said the BJP after coming to power will inquire into the working of all private institutes which had been sanctioned courses under the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT) scheme.

Speaking on the occasion of the annual prize distribution function of the Shiksha Bharati Institute of Educational Training and Research at Samoor village, 10 km from here, he said, while privatisation of education was the need of the hour, quality and standard of course material in education was also necessary.

Mr Dhumal said neither the teachers, nor the students should be victimised or exploited in such institutes because the parents and students were spending huge amount of hard earned money and time to learn and get certificates in such institutes.

He urged these institutes to link education with jobs and not just become ''teaching shops''.

The former chief minister charged the present Congress Government of making a mockery of the education system, particularly through the SCVTs.

Technical courses have been sanctioned to bodies which were running in single or two room accommodations, lacking even the basic infrastructure required for imparting professional courses, he said.

He said courses in Ayurvedic pharmacy were granted to institutes that did not even have herbal gardens, adding that all these courses were sanctioned on political considerations, ignoring the claims of genuine institutes.
