Bathery to host Intl Coffee Growers Meet

Sulthan Bathery (Kerala), Mar 27: Problems being faced by the coffee growers world over would be deliberated in detail in an 'International Coffee Growers Meet beginning here on April 12.

As many as 60 delegates from South America, Africa and Europe and about 1,500 from Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are expected to participate in the two-day meet, South Indian Coffee Growers Association President K T Devassia said here.

He said the meet would also discuss ways and means to get adequate support price to the farmers, who were paid only Rs 60 per kg for their produce where as the instant coffee was sold at Rs 1,200 per kg.

A reception committee has been formed to make the global meet, organised in association with New Delhi-based NGO 'Partners in Change', a big success, he added.
