Train collision because of 'failure of Railways'

New Delhi, Mar 26: The January 24 collision of a goods train with two trucks at a manned crossing gate between Hatwar and Kishanganj stations of Katihar Division, killing one person and injuring four others, was due to the ''failure of Railway'', a statutory inquiry has revealed.

In his preliminary report, the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata said the collision of the goods train with the two loaded trucks at a level crossing between Hatwar and Kishanganj stations on non-electrified section of Katihar Division was because of the failure of the Railway.

The provisional findings of the Commissioner, appended with a preliminary report, were submitted to the Railway Ministry last week.

As a result of the accident, five people were injured, one of whom died later. One was injured grievously and three sustained simple injury.
