Sanctions against Iran 'counter-productive': Pak
Islamabad, Mar 26: Pakistan today opposed the imposition of United Nations sanctions and called for negotiated settlement of the row over Tehran's nuclear weapons programme.
"Pakistan does not favour imposition of sanctions which are often counter-productive," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told a press briefing in Islamabad, two days after the Security Council slapped new sanctions against the defiant Iran.
She hoped that all parties concerned would pursue efforts to find a negotiated settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue.
"This is also the intent of the resolution which calls for negotiated settlement, she said and added that Pakistan was examining the resolution to see whether it would impact any aspect of our relations with Iran.
