Reva electric car for Kerala Postal Services

Bangalore, Mar 26: Collection and delivery of Speed Post articles in the Kerala Postal Circle will henceforth be done in an eco-friendly manner, with three Reva electric cars to be engaged for the purpose.

Reva Electric Car Company Private Limited (RECC), the country's first and only electric car manufacturer, and Kerala Postal Services have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect recently, according to a release from Reva here today.

As per the MoU, the three Reva Electric Speedpost vehicles would be delivered tomorrow in Bangalore and inaugurated on April 16 in Thiruvananthapuram. Painted in a uniform 'Post Office' red colour, these cars would run an average of 60 km per day and be able to carry a load of up to 70 kg, apart from the driver and postman.

Maini Group Chairman S K Maini said ''the alliance will showcase Reva as technology demonstrators of an advanced electric vehicle.'' Kerala Postal Circle Chief Postmaster General Dr Uday Balakrishnan said ''the use of electric car would enhance the quality of postal services in an eco-friendly manner. Moreover, Thiruvananthapuram and its suburbs comprise of many lanes into which only small cars can drive through and with Reva vehicles working for the postal department, we can be assured of greater ease and efficiency of delivery.'' RECC had also trained select officials of the postal department on getting maximum performance out of the electric vehicle. It would also work out a route map for a convoy, which would travel 450 km from Kozhikode to Thiruvananthapuram to decide the location of charging points at select post offices. A Service Engineer would also be provided by RECC to accompany the convoy for the entire length and duration of transport.
