Five killed in tractor-lorry collision

Vijayawada, Mar 26: Five persons were killed and five others injured when a sand-laden lorry collided with a tractor trolley at Nawabpet in Krishna district last night.

The accident occurred when the driver of the tractor steered the vehicle to the left to avoid hitting some buffaloes. The oncoming lorry collided with the trolly which overturned, police added.

About 56 persons were travelling by the tractor to Guntur from Penuganchiprolu while the lorry was proceeding from here to Hyderabad.

Three persons were killed on the spot while two succumbed to injuries at the Vijayawada Government General Hospital.

The condition of the injured was stated to be stable.

The deceased were identified as T Daniel, J Venkateswarulu, P Venkata Koteswara Rao, K Narasiah and D Venkateswarlu, police said.
