Air India Exp launches Doha-Bahrain-M'lore flight

Mangalore, Mar 26: The state-owned low cost airliner, Air India Express, has begun its Doha-Bahrain-Mangalore service with the first flight from Doha landing at the Bajpe airport near here last night.

The flight IX 814 carrying 52 passengers from Doha landed at the airport at 2300 hrs and was received by the officials of Airport Authority of India.

The return flight departed carrying 86 passengers at 2355 hrs.

The duration of the travel from Doha to Mangalore was five hours and 45minutes.

Mr Balakrishna Shetty, Indian envoy to Bahrain, inaugurated the commencement of the new flight operations at the airport by cutting the cake. Mr Shetty was among the 86 passengers who boarded the flight to Doha.

The airliner was already operating one service each from Mangalore to Dubai and Abu Dhabi-Muscat. The new service between Mangalore and Doha would operate on Tuesdays and Sundays.

The AAI officials said with the commencement of the new flight service, the schedule of Mangalore-Dubai has been changed from today. The flight would arrive here at 1910 hrs and depart at 2010 hrs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

From next week onwards, the schedule of Mangalore-Abu Dhabi-Muscat flight, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays would also be changed. The flight from Muscat via Abu Dhabi on Tuesdays would arrive here at 2150 hrs and depart to Abu Dhabi at 2250 hrs. On Saturdays the flight from Abu Dhabi would arrive via Muscat at 2150 hrs and depart at 2250 hrs.

Air India Express was also planning to operate a day service between Mangalore and Sharjah.

Air Deccan had commenced Air 320 flight service today between Bangalore and Mangalore, the official added.
