Poumai festival started in Manipur
Senapati/Imphal, Mar 25: The Poumai cultural fair 2007 will conclude tomorrow at Senapati district headquarters.
Poumai tribes of Manipur were scattered in about 80 villagers and came to the district headquarters to observe the festival meant for the Poumai tribes.
The Poumai Naga tribes were mostly settled at Manipur's Senapati district and recently accorded the status of scheduled tribes by the Centre.
Cultural items, including indigenous dances and local costumes, were the main highlights of the festival.
Manipur Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, Art and Culture Commissioner P Bhorot and other officials participated in the festival.
The Poumai tribe, with a population of about 1.85 lakhs, was one of the biggest Naga tribe of Manipur.
