Eleven arrested for betting on World Cup matches

Bangalore, Mar 25: The city police has arrested eleven people for betting on World Cup Cricket matches and seized cash and other articles valued at nearly Rs 10 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime-South) Alok Kumar said raids were conducted on various places in the southern parts of the city since Friday night when India lost to Sri Lanka. Eleven persons involved in betting had been arrested and Rs 6.25 lakh in cash, mobile phones, a lap top computer and a van confiscated from their possession.

Three bookies, however fled. The incidents of crime were reported from Hanumanthnagar, Kempegowda Nagar and Chamarajapet areas in the city.

The arrested had been remanded to judicial custody, the official added.
