Telgi sentenced to 10 year imprisonment

Bangalore, Mar 24: Abdul Karim Telgi, the king pin of fake stamp paper scam and four of his associates were sentenced to 10 year imprisonment by the Special Court Judge here today.

Judge Vishwanath V Angadi, who had convicted the accused yesterday, also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the accused, Telgi, Bhadruddin, Irfan Ahmed, Wazir Ahmad Salik and Pradeep Kumar. Non payment of fine would attract one year further imprisonment.

The accused were charge sheeted for forging documents such as challan receipts of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and using fake embossing seal of the RBI on a sale deed related to Sami Labs Limited, in Peenya Industrial Estate.

The case which was registered by the Peenya Police in 2003, was among the 28 investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
