Hyderabad, Mar 24: Telugu Desam Legislature Party Secretary E Dayakara Rao today resigned as MLA over the alleged failure of the Andhra Pradesh Government to stop illegal construction of Babli and eleven other projects across river Godavari by the Maharashtra Government.

Soon after being suspended from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for his alleged 'unruly' behaviour, Mr Rao called on Speaker K R Suresh Reddy and submitted his resignation.

The Speaker tried to persuade him to take back his resignation but the TDP leader maintained that he could not go to his constituency and face the people, if the Maharashtra government continued to take up the construction of these projects. Not a single drop of water would come to the areas irrigated by Sri Ram Sagar Project, he claimed. He said he would take back his resignation only if the Andhra Pradesh Government takes up the matter with the Centre and ensures that the Maharashtra Government halt the projects.

Protesting against the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government, the TDLP deputy leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy told newspersons that the TDP members would not hesitate to resign their membership from the Assembly, if the Government was negligent on the issue.
