SRM, AACC ink MoU for community college
Chennai, Mar 24: In yet another key initiative, the SRM University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US-based American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to set up a Community College which would form part of the community colleges of the US.
The MoU was signed by University Vice-Chancellor P Sathyanarayanan and AACC Head Bob Keener yesterday.
The MoU envisaged starting three-month, six-month and two-year diploma courses and a UG course in Community College from the coming academic year at the University, Prof Satyanarayanan said after showing the AACC delegation around the University campus at suburban Kattankulathur.
AACC is the national organisation for community colleges in the US.
All the Community College courses were job-oriented like radiology and clinical law practices among others.
He said professors from the US would visit India and train faculty and students of the SRM University.
Diploma students would also be sent to US for training under the student exchange programme, he added.
Prof Sathyanarayanan said the interaction between the visiting team and the university officials was fruitful.
''The team was highly impressed with the ground work done by the university,'' he said.
Lauding the efforts of the SRM University, Mr Bon Keener said the steps taken by it had given a conceptual shape to the whole project in a way a US University would have done.
