Passengers have escape as rail engine catches fire

Ferozpur, Mar 24: Passengers on board a DMU had a miraculous escape after the engine caught fire on the Ferozpur-Jalandhar section this afternoon, Assistant Divisional Railway Manager R S Ghera said here.

Giving details, Mr Ghera said that the engine driver halted the train near Mohalam railway station and with the help of the passengers, immediately decoupled the engine from the other compartments. The engine was completetly destroyed in the fire, he said.

Unconfirmed reports said that a few passengers on noticing the flames jumped off the DMU and sustained minor injuries. However no cases were reported from any of the hospitals in the region.

Mr Ghera said that preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused due a technical fault in the engine. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
