Shillong, Mar 24: Air India and The Shillong Times "RANK and BOLT Awards for 2006" were presented here yesterday.

Bryan Wahlang, Anthony Bansuklang Khongsit and Mandakini Hazarika were conferred with top honours in recognition of excellence in the field of personal excellence and professionalism.

Altogether 12 awards were conferred to the students and teachers.

The RANK awards were given to the students while the BOLT to the teachers.

Addressing the programme, Governor M.M.Jacob lauded the Air India and The Shillong Times for taking this initiative in recognising the excellence in the field of academics.

He said the students of this region were more professional and possess excellent communication skills.

Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh called upon the students to achieve higher goals.

Mr Jacob and Mr Lyngdoh also distributed prizes to the winners.

Others, who spoke on the occasion, included The Shillong Times editor Manas Chaudhuri, General Manager of Air India S.K.Kolekar and Commercial Manager A.K.Tirkey.
